An article entitled, “High School PE Just Got Cool: CrossFit CPHS Scores Straight A’s,” written by Bonnie Lynch talks about the program, offered by teaching veteran Brian Dickie, and how it has taken off throughout the school.
Over half of all CPHS students are participating in the program this school year, where they learn about strength training, fitness, and nutrition. The article includes many success stories of students who have experienced gains not only in the gym, but in the classroom and outside of school as well.
“Brian has built this program from the ground up, and it’s now one of the most popular in the school,” says Principal Eric Hardie.
Dickie says he’s been reading Sweat RX since the first issue came out, and he likes the fact that it is published in Canada. A few Facebook friends encouraged him to mention the program to the magazine, and they quickly responded with interest.
“Being featured in the magazine was an honour and quite humbling,” he says. “However, the fact that our program is so successful in the school and community allows me the liberty of being comfortable with the exposure.
“Many kids today are accused of being indifferent and lazy, but I can assure you that the kids in this program are challenging that trend,” he adds. “Their enthusiasm, willingness to learn, and affinity for the new skills development is refreshing, invigorating, and represents what I want from the kids in my classroom. CrossFit CPHS has given me a shot of adrenaline that is exhilarating!”
